Attire
“A ball is an occasion of splendor and elegance. To be in keeping with the magnificence of the affair, the costume may be elaborate.”
– The Book of Good Manners, Victor H. Diescher
Suits
“With an evening coat and a white tie, anybody, even a stockbroker, can gain a reputation for being civilized.”
– Oscar Wilde
We request that black suits be worn with a white dress shirt and a black or white tie. “White Tie” and “Black Tie” dress are encouraged. White gloves are optional. For those who would like to purchase a black tie tuxedo or white tie “tails,” the following web-sites are recommended:
uniformalwearhouse.com (This site offers formal-wear for affordable prices.)
myowntuxedo.com (This site sells pre-owned garments, as well as new pieces.)
Gowns
We request that gowns be floor length. Long white gloves are optional. If you don’t already have a frock in your closet, don’t despair; lovely gowns can be found in all sorts of places – including boutiques, vintage shops and grandmothers’ closets! The key is to start your search early.
When it comes to your dancing feet, remember that comfort trumps fashion… your dress will outshine (and likely cover) your shoes, anyway!
